The Digital Economy Bill will put the privacy and free speech of UK citizens at risk.
There are no privacy safeguards in the Bill. Porn sites could use age verification systems that put people at risk of Ashley Madison hacks or of credit card fraud.
Blocking websites that don't implement age verification will mean the censorship of legal content - potentially affecting tens of thousands of websites and millions of people. Once this system is in place, it can be used for other kinds of content. We have heard discussions around this Bill asking why more material is not being censored to make the Internet safe.
Sign the petition and tell the Government that age verification and blocking are disproportionate responses to a complex, social issue. The UK’s children need education, not censorship, to keep them safe online.
